SPRC was established in December of 1994 by a group of teachers, writers, artists, attorneys, and educators such as Ms. Fakhri Golestan, Ms. Shirin Ebadi, Ms. Shiva Dolatabadi, and Mr. Ghalchechian, for the purpose of improving the lives of children in Iran. SPRC is independent, non-profit, non-governmental, and without any political affiliation.
Focusing on the articles of the United Nation's Convention for the Rights of the Child (CRC), as adopted in November 1989, SPRC strives to identify and facilitate the means by which children in Iran can attain an appropriate standard of living through the proper provision of nutrition, health, education, support, and protection. With this mission in mind, SPRC conducts research, offers counseling, provides social services, and collaborates with other non-governmental and governmental agencies in order to enhance the achievement of these objectives.
All the activities and objectives of SPRC are based on the CRC to which the Islamic Republic of Iran became a State Party in March of 1994.
One of the main goals of SPRC is to raise awareness about the rights of the child amongst the various classes of society - ranging from the general population to legislators, politicians, policymakers, and child education specialists - in order to identify those factors which facilitate and impede the process of procuring and protecting these rights.
