General Report on Ahwaz Activities
Abridged report from Nasser Razavi Ebrahimi
The children of Ahwaz have the same problem as the children in Bam, except no one knows about them. They really need help, so I started to study and learn more about them. I referred to Behzity & Farmandary and I choose "Degha-ghe-le", a village close to Ahwaz with more than 10,000 poor Iranian Arab people.
These people live on oil lands belonging to NIOC, so they do not own any lands. They are ways out of the city of Ahwaz and the City does not recognize them and at the same time, they are close enough to City so that the Agricultural Ministry considers them people from Ahwaz. So they do not get any help from either side.
This is why I choose Degha-ghe-leh to support. Now I have realized that there are more villages similar to Degha-ghe-leh close to Ahwaz.
I cooperated with these Organizations:
- Shora-ye Rosta
- Behzisty
- Amozesh va Parvaresh
Next, I started the following activities from summer holidays:
- Shorai- rosta
- Exercise Classes: Formed soccer schools (2 teachers and 3 classes – provided balls, clothes, nets, drinking water, and hand carrier)
- Music Class: One class two times per week for girls and boys (provided flutes, teacher, and transportation for the teacher)
- Girls Activity Classes: learning class (gol sazi)
- Students Summer Class (Taghviati)
Note: All classes were held in different homes in the village.
- Behzisty
- A computer class for 16 disabled girls & boys (14 of them certified by the Ministry of Labor).
- A computer class for 20 street children (continue)
- A music class (mojtamae fiaz bakhsh)
- Amozesh va Parvaresh
- 2 daycares for 35 children (15 + 20 kids) in 2 shifts in a rebuilt cargo container in Degha-ghe-leh for girls.
- Celebration for Children's Day (Jashn Rooze Koodak) for 150 kids in primary school in Degha-ghe-leh.
- Three soccer classes in the village of Sowiseh about 15 km from Ahwaz (each class 20 kids).
- Feeding needy students.
- 10 day cares as below:

I supported a total of 308 children in 11 different villages in the Ahwaz area (80 football classes
and 228 in the Day Care Centers)
4.City of Ahwaz: I had a meeting with 2 members of the City's council members (Shorayeh Share Ahwaz),
both were interested in my activities and asked me to cooperate with them in Ahwaz. They even were
ready to give a land in Ahwaz to build a Center for the children (Khaneh Kodak). In one of my meeting
with some responsible people in Ahwaz, two major issues came up: "If we prepare classes and teachers
but the students have no pen & notebooks and as we know, they are hungry, how can we teach them?"

Abridged report dated November 21, 2004:
Tabaresy day care:
There is a 45 students school in a village in Abadan Road. It has 3 classes with 5 levels of
students. I talked to Amozesh va Parvaresh to run a new day care with a minimum of 10 students.
Teachers and classes to be furnished by them with registration fee by the parents and us (it costs
about 350,000 Rials per month until the end of May).
Kids Services:
Along the Karoon River there are many villages but only some of them have Rah-Nemaeei school.
There are so many girls and boys that have to walk for 10 Kilometers.
There are two groups for girls: mornings from 7:30am to 12:30pm and afternoon from 13:00pm to
17:00pm. If we rent a bus along the Karoon River to start at 7:00am to pick up the morning students
and then return them back at 12:30 to pick up the afternoon students it will be a great help.
Afghan girl:
In Iran, the education for Afghan people is very expensive. It costs about 1,200,000 Rials for
primary school. There is a day care in Ahwaz, where the lady manager has asked me to help an
Afghan family to register their kid in a day care. It will be 140,000 Rials per month for 6 months.
Mohalati Primary School:
Amozesh va Parvaresh showed me an 80 square meter primary school in a poor village, which has
leaks in the roof. The repair costs 1,300,000 Rials.

Abridged report dated February 11, 2005:
Two more daycares were introduced to Nasser Razavi Ebrahimi in:
EGHBAL (Islamabad)
CHMYAN (45km out of Ahwaz)
After his initial visit, he provided the following:
Eqbql: (15 children)
- 15 chairs + 5 tables
- Repairing the storage of Madresseh to chenge it to daycare
- Salary for the teacher
Chamyan:
- 20 chairs and desks for the returning children (BAZ MANDEH AZ TAHSIL)
- 15 chairs and 5 tables for Daycare
- Salary for the teacher

Abridged report dated March 24, 2005:
Now there are 17 different daycares in 12 villages and 11 schools in Ahwaz city, which cover around 1500 children under 7 years old.
It is very difficult to understand the word "NOTHING"! One of our proposed activities is to provide "hot breakfast". My plan is:
- Mothers taking turn coking
- Using daycares or schools as a place to feed the children
The idea is very simple and we have succeeded in many places. However, in some classes "the mothers have no pot to cook in!"
In Eghbal School, the manager introduced me to 10 children who were poor and had low grades. I talked with them and advised them to study. I promised them if their grades were improved, I would give them anything that they want. Then I look at one of them and asked: "Tell me, what do you wish to get if your average grade increases?" He thought for a moment and answered: "A pen"
Unfortunately I couldn't do any important thing for them. I could only choose 5 of them in the fifth grade and give them stationeries such as a pen & booklet. And in Nowrouz (New Year) 5 pairs of shoes and small red fishes as an Eidi (New Year's gift).
My experience has shown us that the best group for helping the children is Shoray Moaleman (teacher's committee).
We bought around 200 sets of cloths for girls in different types and colors. For most of them, it was the first time they were free to choose something!
In villages we need swing sets (tab), slides (sor soreh) and so on for playing in the yards, as the children have nothing to play.
I really believe in "when a child is hungry the teaching has no benefit". During last winter, when I shaked the children's hands, I really felt that there was no blood in their hands! I offered the managers and teachers that any classes that help me with cooking, I will give them the material for the food.
Now, Amozesh va Parvaresh has given me a list of 11 schools in poor areas that need food. The total population would be 1030 children, for 2 meals per a week with cooperation of some of the mothers, the schools, and I. The hot breakfast consists of beans (Lobia) on Sundays & lintel (Addasi) on Wednesdays for 50 grams/child (price is 7500 Rials per kilo).
We have to be more serious for feeding in next year (meals & kind).
